Giant 7X7 bull poached in Estes Park

A huge 7x7 bull that hung around Estes this year got poached by some jerk. This reminds me of when Sampson was killed a couple years ago. I really hope they find this guy. I watched this bull grow his rediculous rack while working up there this summer and I want to throw the first stone if he gets caught. As if poaching a bull like this wasn't bad enough, he did it in the worst possible place for the image of hunters. This makes us look horrible in the most visible part of this state for casual outdoor vacationers.

Amazing!

I just watched a YouTube video of some of the rut activity in Estes park. It's amazing how the elk come into this town every year at this time and are given pretty much free run of the town. Quite the tourist attraction. But it's also cool to see how the residents go about their daily routines without disturbing the elk.

Too bad about the paoching - idiots like this need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

What an idiot!

You're right hawkeye270, this makes hunters look really bad!  The problem with that is, the person that shot this elk isn't a "hunter".  He/she has gone against everything that we stand by!  With $5000 being offered by the DOW for information leading to the arrest, I'm pretty sure that in this economy, it won't take long for someone to reveal the idiot's name.  Money has a way of making people talk.

That sucks man.  I'd go up

That sucks man.  I'd go up there every year for 4 or 5 years in a row to see the elk.  It was always an amazing sight to see them hanging around downtown, on the golf course, in peoples' yards.  I hope they catch the guy.....Idiot.....

While up hunting we had heard

While up hunting we had heard some rumors floating around about this and my first thought it was possible for the elk may had wondered somewhere where a bow hunter may had taken a shot at him and bever found him.  Know that I have read the article from DOW and it obivious that some moroon is out there giving the true hunter a bad name.  I hope they find the person respondsible and throw the book at him.  Anybody got pictures of him.  I have a few pics a good bull from up there....just wondering if its the same one.

This bull hung around town

This bull hung around town primarily and so it is fairly unlikely that he got shot by a bowhunter on legal ground and then the bull made it to where they had to put it down (the Stanely). Also if I was that hunter, I would be coming out right away to get ahold of my elk. Yeah, you would get investigated but if you had your bloody arrow or could prove that you shot him legally, you would have a chance of getting him back. And a bull that big, a legal hunter would be crazy not to come out and say it. It really sucks. If you go to that link there is a picture of him still alive. He is a beast!

Man that sucks. I hate

Man that sucks. I hate poachers, and the bad name they give us hunters. What pride could one take in something the illegaly took? Biggest buck in my area was shot in the head with a 22 couple years ago, and they just let it lay in the field.
