Getting started in goose hunting

I want to try some field goose hunting, I own a camp in central NY and need to know what is needed to start out, how many decoys and what type, also what type of lay out blinds and calls work best. We will be hunting corn stubble and hay fields near the Chenango river, plenty of geese I have never done this type of hunting and need some guideance. Thanks in advance Big smile

1st you need lots of MONEY-- second you need lots of money and third ditto--we hunt them alot here in Wisc--with fair results--2-4 guys a fall spend lots of hours scouting them- then we get permission to hunt after going over platt books etc--then you need some (?) dekes- our group of 6-8 guys has 3 trailers(6X10' enclosed) to carry them- mostly full bodies(flocked) I like Big Foots although we bought some GHG ones a couple of years BUT they are not very durable- new FA are good- then we also have some shells- some motion shells- some field duck dekes-some silos- etc--some times seems a bit much for a daily limit of two geese-except Sepr 1-15 when it's 5. Oh yea- throw in a few goose flags- mucho calls- a good auto and a Terror choke or two- and some field blinds- probablt forgot some thing but that's a start. good Luck!

Do you ever hunt fields with out the blind? Just lay on the ground and maybe make a blanket of cornstalks to break up your outline? Seams to me that might work.

Yes--We did- in MT- AK- IA- SD -ND(2 yrs ago left blinds home) Wi etc BUT got wet- got cold- didn't shoot as well- Now thanks to FA and other makers of layout blinds we are comfy and shoot better as getting up to shoot is much easier--

i goose hunt marylands eastern shore. with good success. i think bigfoots are the most durable and we do use a couple mojos. we use about 100-200 decoys. i personally recomend foiles migrators calls. but its what ever suit you and your hunting situation. and hunt out of blinds and layout blinds. i prefer fa layout blinds.
