Geithner Confirmed and Sworn in today

Looks like the fox will be guarding the hen house:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/01/26/senate-confirms-geithner-trea...

I'm disturbed how Obama and the dems have pushed this through under the guise of "economic emergency." Good grief he couldn't even pay his own taxes and he's now in charge of the Treasury!!! I was surprised that even Orrin Hatch gave him a pass.

In fact I see Obama doing this on many levels, from confirmations to new bills he wants to push through. It will all be an emergency - so in other words, don't scrutinize or ask any questions, just push it through. That is dangerous.

You know how this works, Bitmasher -- he's a Democrat. They're not interested in people who pay taxes, just those who spend them. He's perfect for the job. Besides, the Secretary of the Treasury receives a salary of $191,300 per year; Obama's going to give him a big tax cut, remember?

Orrin Hatch gave him the thumbs up because he'll make a good sec of treasury.

What taxes are you all talking about? The Fox story doesn't eleborate. Try a real news source there are many out there.

Like many officials Geithner filled out his own returns. (turbo tax) You would be suprised at how many highly paid people don't spend the $500 for a good CPA. They figure that by using the simplest forms and not trying to evade they will be fine. They're wrong. Neither Geithner or many others are tax specialists. Anyone who can afford to hire an accountant and doesn't is nuts.

Probably before this job Geithner was making well into nine figures, Sec Treas pay is chicken feed.

I can't believe after Iraq, the economy, the elections, people still read and watch fox. Smell the coffee.

We all know your definition of a "real" news source Civet -- it's one that doesn't publish things like facts, but sticks to the party line. Joseph Goebbels would be proud of you.

I love how you condemn Geithner as you try to defend him. He's not a tax specialist and doesn't have the sense to hire an accountant -- so let's put him in charge of our economy and monetary system!! Laugh Laugh Laugh

How, exactly, does using TurboTax releive you from your obligation to pay your taxes?
How, exactly, are you somehow said to have made "an honest mistake" for not paying your taxes AFTER the IRS has TOLD you that you owe them?
How, exactly, does one go about not being penalized for not paying your taxes for 4 straight years and even after being notified that you owe them by the IRS?

Now THATS change we can believe in !!!

To answer the question, it was $34,000.00 in Social Security and Medicare Taxes.
Also the byline on the Fox story says AP. So this was a story on the AP wire that ALL the news networks have access to.

"Try a real news source there are many out there. "

While Fox may tend to lean right, ALL the rest can't be news or journalism by any means. They are so far left biased, a blind and deaf person can see that most of the media is liberal.
The appointment of Geithner, just shows the "Change" sounds like more like corruption. The morals and values of the this country as the majority goes, are bankrupt.

Civet is very selective in his determination of what constitutes a "real" news source. In the past, he's stated that the Wall Street Journal isn't credible, either.

But he loves the New York Times. I think he prefers his news sources on the verge of bankruptcy. In Liberal Land, poverty is virtue and success a vice -- which is why the Dems seem to enjoy creating as many poor people as possible.

Civetcat, type "#1 tv news source" into google and see what you come up with.

Guess if Google thinks Fox is #1 - then it must be so! neener!

The Wall Street Journal lost it's credibility when it was sold to Murdoch, which I've explained before. You can Wiki the whole thing if you care to educate yourself. I'd disagree that the news in general is liberal. Most news sources are owned by the same few comanies and are conservative, I'd include a fair portion of the NYT in that description. The editorial page of the Times is left of whatever the center is considered.

Consider that Americas left is the rest of the world's right wing though. Like the rest of Jouralism the Times fell flat on it's face during the Bush coup, not making a squeek in the runup to the war in Iraq. Like most of America they were spineless. For a peek at how right wing journalism in america has become watch Steven Colberts you tube at the corespondents club dinner or whatever it was. He was mocking the spinelessness of the press as much as the lying duplicity of the Bush cabal. Everyone thought Colbert had flopped, Laura was seething, the press wasn't laughing, the rest of American got it.

As right of center as it is, the Times is still the paper of record, it's what Dick Cheney, John McCain, and Ed Kenedy all pick up first thing every morning. By not reading it, and by continuing to get information from proven unreliabley bieased sources you not only do yourself the disservice of being uninformed but you do the country the disservice of voting while being misinformed.

So let me get this straight...a newspaper's journalistic integrity lies in who owns it, and not what it publishes? Laugh Laugh

No wonder libs can't get their facts straight.
