Utah's waterfowl season starts on Oct. 2nd.

My boys and I look forward to trying out some Remington Hevi-Shot for the first time. Have 6's, 4's, and 2's to tryout on ducks and geese. (Besides our standard go to load of Kent Fasteel 3" Mag #2 shot for ducks and BB's for geese.)

Happy hunting to all!

I use the hevi-shot and it is awesome!!! The price is the only downfall but it makes up for it in performance. Go one size smaller than you did with steel and you won't regret it.

Our season opens here for Canada goose (resident geese) on Sept 1st with an 8 bird limit! regular duck season doesn't start untill Oct 8th or so.
I have to agree about the hevi shot. I use it too. I was averaging about 1 duck per 4 shots before I switched to Hevi shot now I'm getting about 1 duck per 2 shots (average) and considering all the money I have invested in hunting ducks and geese I figure why cut costs on the only part of the hunt that really puts the bird in the freezer. For an extra $10 on a hunt I will kill more birds. How much does the day off cost, the gun, the decoys, do you use a dog? How much do you spend on him in time and money? I think the extra few dollars for the ammo is well worth it, given the results.

Thanks for the feedback on the Hevi-Shot! lol Looks like the extra cost was worth it, as it brought home more birds with 50% LESS ammo than before.

Our early season opened on Sept 6th but I have been sick and couldn't get out .... One of the older gents in our group scoped out a field that the geese were feeding earlier in the week so we tried it out yesterday morning .

Here are some pictures that one of our guys took from yesterday .

Sun coming up

A couple of shooting stations ...

The youngest guy in our group is introducing his 4 yr old son to this game early .... he also got some cool video ( you can see the camera mounted on the fence rail over his left shoulder ) his son left us howling lol with his commentary of the shots when we reviewed the video later today lol lol

A truckload of Canada's .... the early season limit in our area is 8 each and 24 possession ...

We didn't need the dogs today since we hunted a stripped corn stubble field and all the birds were pretty well stoned .... ( proper shot size , proper shot placement , proper range is key to limit cripples )

Some guys say labs rule !! lol we all run Springers now but we have had almost every flavor in the book at one point or another .... we do a lot of upland work so the Springers are ideal .... they also handle waterfowl well , in the field or in the water ... here are some shots of my female " Sally " .... all the guys in our group have Springers that are accomplished retrievers in all kinds of situations ...

I've got to admit though .... if you are looking for a dog that will retrieve heavy geese and waterfowl all day long in all kinds of harsh cover , a lab fits the bill ! .... most are real work horses !! .... Springers will die trying ! lol
