Gee, Pelosi knew about waterboarding?

I guess I don't get it. Where's the smoking gun here, pangolin?

It's in the fourth paragraph. The story fills in a lot of background re Cheney and torture but what we are interested in on this thread is the briefings by the CIA.

Quote:
The CIA made no mention of his role in documents delivered to Capitol Hill last month that listed every lawmaker who had been briefed on "enhanced interrogation techniques" since 2002. For meetings that were overseen by Cheney, the agency told the intelligence committees that information about who oversaw those briefings was "not available."

So what the CIA did was list the Dems at the briefings, but not mention the many other meatings she wasn't invited to which were run by Cheney. Instead they said the information on who ran the meetings wasn't available. What the CIA did was tell a bald faced,..... uhm... untruth.

The CIAs continued fabrications don't give them much credibility in the he said she said going on with Pelosi. In the end that's all it will ever be. No notes or recordings allowed at the meatings and the supposed notes the CIA took afterwards turn out to be fabrications with people listed there on the other side of the country at the time and using terminology not invented until years later. The probably made them up last week.

Don't forget, the CIA has it's own issues with this whole topic. There are many good reasons to discredit Pelosi.

A fairly effective smear job on Pelosi. No matter what the truth is if you can get your message out on the tee vee for 3 days in a row, you've won.

But everybody already knew Cheney and the CIA supported the techniques. Both have admitted it. All the fourth paragraph says is that the CIA didn't mention his role. Big deal -- it's obvious by Cheney's own admission that he was all over it.

My point is that even though we no doubt agree on the issue, you're presenting this like some sort of rosetta stone that reveals some hidden mystery. I guess I just don't see this article as a big "gotcha" moment. We already got him.

As I said elsewhere, Pelosi can only be smeared if she acts like there's something to be smeared. Rather than get bogged down in the "I didn't get briefed...I did get briefed...I didn't get briefed...I did but they lied" debacle, she could've taken the wind out of their sails completely by saying she got caught up in the mood after 9/11 and later realized it was just plain wrong. That would've sold, because we all went a little crazy back in '02, and that sentiment would've resonated with Americans. But by taking the tact she did, she looked guilty, indecisive, and dishonest.

Perhaps she did look like a disengenuous fibber, and perhaps she was telling the truth, how someone comes across on TV isn't the be all end all.. We don't know. But what we do know is that the CIA lied about those meatings, and the lie was very recent. If they can lie about Cheney being there why can't they lie about Pelosi being at the meatings they say she was at?

No big smoking gun, no big conspiracy at Langley, but an instance of the CIA lying about those meatings. Lying about a very substantive fact.

The best way to measure truth is to examine motivation. Who here stands to gain from lying? The CIA could smear a speaker of the house, for no apparent reason or gain. The speaker could be covering her backside and saving her political career. Hmmm. No question. Pelosi is lying.
