GAS PRICES LIMITING YOUR HUNT?

I was thinking that current gasoline prices are limiting my hunt. Taking off to join in on the Late Turkey hunt....looks to be a whole lot more expensive this year. In the past, I have invited my hunting buddies to split the gas with me, but this always turns me into a glorified hunting guide. First, I do not want to take their vehicle, as mine is always more prepared for the back country than are theirs. Secondly, I hate that trapped feeling you get when you are riding shotgun, can't really do exactly what you want, when someone else is driving. They ride with me, and now I am having to mess around with picking them up at a certain drop off or pick up point, now we have a schedule don't we...I prefer my schedule, not theirs. Maybe I am a control freak? My way or the highway...

On the other hand, maybe the higher fuel prices will keep others out of the woods, improving the hunt for me? Or, maybe we will all have a better hunt, as guys keep their rigs parked at camp, and get out and actually hunt more, on foot? I do know, that as I was bear hunting last weekend, that I was thinking about it occasionally. Planning a bit more, not just taking off for unknown destinations, not as much scouting... How about you?

I guess I should "suck it up" and quit "grousing" about the fuel cost. These hunting opportunities are way more important to me than the money spent on the fuel.

I hunt fairly close to home so gas won't be to much of a factor for me. However the scouting is a little different. I hunt about an hour away in my hometown and scouting trips are fewer than they use to be.

GAS PRICES LIMITING YOUR HUNT?

I will be planning my hunts a lot more and hunting closer to home .
After selling the horses ( hay at $7.00 - $ 10.00 a bale X 2 horses adds up to over $1000 a year ) and going to ATV's cuts the yearly cost way down .
Gas prices don't look so bad for them as they don't eat when you don't use the ATV . Just use them for getting to the area ,not road hunting anyway .
Also it help sense we moved 5 min. away from the Game Range that I hunt .
Will not be driving my 4x4 truck as far .
Did have to cancle out on hunting with one son and 2 grandsons because of the cost of travel .

GAS PRICES LIMITING YOUR HUNT?

I'm taking one less trip to Tn than originally planed but I will be staying a couple days longer. I have adjusted my huntng because of fuel costs. I also would love to trap out of my pick up truck but since it gets about 14 miles to the gallon and my station wagon gets 27......It's the trapping wagon Yes
I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to rig the dogs off the top of it.

Hunter777, may look funny with the dogs on the hood... Big smile

One year, my truck broke the day before my Cow Elk / late Buck hunt. My next best vehicle was an 81' Ford Escort. Wouldn't you know we got a nice buck and a Cow Elk. Elk Quarters stickin out the trunk, Deer across the hood. Had to get a buddy to come out and meet us at the hiway, or we would have cooked the deer...

I was thinking maybe I need another Escort, beets my hunting rig for fuel economy...
