Game Warden?

Hi

I'm currently inrolled in college and I'm in the PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) program.
I've thought about switching over to Wildlife Management, to becoming a Game Warden.
However- My mom and dad won't let me cause they think game wardens only make around $8.00 an hour.
Is anyone in here game wardens? If so- How much do you make?
Or does anyone know exactly how much you could expect to make an hour?

In Minnesota they start out at about $21.00 per hour and work up to about $27.00 per hour. They are in the same union as the state patrol.

Here's from a Virginia site, next door to you.....

"Earnings: Usually in the $34-64,000 range"

Not bad, especially for that area....

In WA game agents are fully commissioned officers that actually have more juristiction than many of the local police agencies.

You should be able to look this info up on your states dept of personel website.

Just remember that a game warden's busiest time of year is when most sportsmen/women want to have time off. If you enjoy hunting, you may not have time to do it.

most of the wardens i know will hunt during the week and then will have to work on the weekend, sounds pretty good to me, your getting paid to be out in the woods and scouting all year long, i can deal with it.

Well here's another thing.
At my college we have a program called "Wildllife Magagement".
It's a 2 yr. degree (AD) and they said you could possibly further your education to becoming a Game Warden.
I was wondering if the WV State Police Accadomy would count as farthering the education?

Thanks for feedback.

Just curious cpl. How old are you? Are your parents paying all expenses for you and college? No meant to insult you by overstepping my bounds and intrude on your life. I don't know your situation. Just want to know. At what point do you get to make your own decisions about what you do in life?

Tell your mom and dad that in the medical field most assistants (regarless of specialty) are usually seen and treated as third class bottom of the barrel citizens by professional staff. If you don't believe me just spend enough time in a hospital, clinic, or any operating room. You'll see exactly what I mean. If you become a game warden then you will actually have the same authority and jurisdiction as any state patrol officer, though your main job role will be a bit different. You'll get much more respect as a warden than any physical therepists assistant will.

If you're riding on your folks money with the claus that they get to decide what you do in life, then it's time to jump off that free ride and make your own way. Then you get to make your own decisions about what you do in life. It's never a good idea to rely on mom and dad as a safety net once you're out of high school. When I was in college 16 years ago I saw far too many people from my own generation that depended on their parents to be their safety net and pay most of their expenses. Trust me, that free ride does no good for anyone at that age. Make your own way and you'll be glad you did. It builds charecter, something still missing from my generation and something you'll be glad you have when you get out of college.

I think that if you want to explore the possibility of furthering your education with this wildlife management program then go for it. Doesn't matter what they make as game wardens, you'll find out more about that while in the program. It doesn't mean you have to take a job doing this. It could be in addition to what you are already studying or look into it after you get your bachelors degree or whatever you plan to do. Just an option I guess

in washington state they make 3500 starting out and topping off at 5500 if i remember correctly. im enrolled for criminal justice for which i want to become a game warden. cj classes are kinda a bitch because you wont need to use them unless you want to go to state patrol, sheriff, or city cop. so far im in cj evidence and introduction. here 2 years at a community college and 2 years with the local pigs or get your bachlors degree at a university. they accept cj or science classes not sure which science classes though.

If you enjoy the outdoors and wish to help preserve our great resources buy being a warden, then go for it. You will have a great career no matter how much you make, because you will be working for a cause. Your work will have meaning to you, and in return will keep you happily involved. If you don't do it, you will probably kick yourself in the behind the rest of your life.
