okay so i go to school at CWU and am trying to do some modern firearm mulie hunting. i have been scouting in the 328 naneum area since school started. i have been going up there about 3-4 times a week. i have been seeing lots of sign (scat, rubs, bedding areas) but no bucks. i have been consistently seeing does but no big guys. only thing i can think of is...i have only been going up there around afternoon and staying until it gets dark. like i said tons of signs but no bucks? whats up with that. does anyone know anything about the cle elum area? would i be better off going that way?

Pray for snow. Althought there will be resident mulies all over the place, the big bucks seem to target the really high stuff all summer. Look for more bucks moving down once the snow deepens. Also, I have found that these resident bucks are really nocturnal, no proof, just my opinion, seems they hide all day, I know the feeling you are experiencing. But the good news is you have scrapes. Hunt them, now that the season is about to open, your buck may get bumped out of his bed, and there you are....Scouting and hunting are two different things.

We have a few secret canyons that hold resident mulies, and if the big boys are not in yet, we stir up these canyons in the daylight and can occasionally get a shot....good luck.
