Found Him!!!

So I started my day thinking I was going to place a trail camera in the upper San Diego River, Only to realize they have closed both access point because of a recent death at Cedar Creek Falls, I kind of understand but not really. So I pulled out my Atlas a picked a new spot I have never been to. On the way back down this road from the new spot I almost hit a 3 or 4 pointer. So I pulled over and scouted the area. I found where he is most likely getting his water. Now what? this will be my first deer season. Do you think he will still be in that area come hunting season. I was at about 2000- 3000 ft elavation

Now what????Well, you can

Now what????

Well, you can start by telling me where you were...... Wink

Glad to see you found one.  I have seen lots of nice bucks round San Diego county, almost always on private land, and never during the season.  I have my place picked out on Palomar, now I just have to wait for the season to start in 2-1/2 weeks.

Are you bow hunting this year, or hoping he survives till rifle?  If you found the water, stick with it.  It's not going to get any wetter until at least Novermber or so, and it's gonna get hot.  As long as that supply holds up, he and others will keep hitting it.

See any pig sign by the river?  Talked to a landowner the other day that has trapped and killed one on his property on Palomar, only to get the "We don't allow hunting" when I asked for permission...  Oh well.....

I am hoping he survives till

I am hoping he survives till rifle season, and that no one else has seen him or any other deer in that area. I was relly supprized to see water and a good amount of it. Wasnt sure if i was going o hunt that area so I didnt put up my trail cam, I think I am going to put it up now!! Do you know if most people that hunt in the D16 are getting there Deer with a bow or rifle?

As for pigs HA, They are like Hudini. No sighns anywhere. I know a kid got one early this year bow hunting near pine hills. I got all excited and scouted that hole area not a single track, rub, wallow anything. Same with the San Diego River, Nada. I saw every track there was up the river except pig, I even saw turkey tracks, I want to go up there again but they say it will be closed till mid November if not longer.

D16 is mostly rifle hunters.

D16 is mostly rifle hunters.  Some bow hunters will stick to Laguna, where it's bow only, to avoid crowds.  I did it once last year.  However, the rest of the 3,000 with rifle tags all seem to be out there together.  It's an orange army on public land.

Don't know where you were, but Eagle Peak Rd., Boulder Creek Rd., and Palomar are all jammed.  Opening day last year, on just Eagle Peak, I counted 29 cars when I drove it after leaving the woods.

I have an A22 tag, and a G-13.  So, I will be gunning for a doe during rifle season just for some meat.  Just my luck though, I will have some big 4x4 walk out in front of me.... lol
