Looking for any info. on the best mix to plant, and best places to plant.
At present we have 800 acres of pine timber with about 50 acres of hard wood. Shooting lanes are set up for 50 to 250 yd. shots. we have pretty good trails through the hardwoods.(up to 200yd. shots) ALL pine lanes are planted with clover. With nothing planted in the hardwoods.
The deer are passing through the plots but not eating. (nothing noticable)
Any suggestions would be helpful. Brick Wall,)
Leases around us are killing good deer. We harvested only 3 deer last year.

Hard to get anything to grow that would be good for the deer in the hardwoods. Ryegrass would grow but it doesn't do much for your deer. I would suggest fertilizing with triple 13 as much natural browse as you have . It will taste better to the deer and should draw them into your place.My$.02...Ed

I'll try that. It sure cant hurt. Yes Some one told me to dig a hole about 2 1/2 feet deep with a post hole digger, fill the hole with soybeans, cover it and let it rot. They say the deer will dig up the ground to get to it. Think
Who knows, I may try it also.

I know catfish love rotten soy beans. Don't know about deer. Worth a try I guess. I've had luck in the past with clover. Could be they have something else triggering that palate, especially this time of the year.
