Fishing in NY

This year i wasnt really excited to go fishing! I went alot last year and caught little. And this year when i went i also didnt catch many fish. I talked to some people and they said that the fishing hasnt really been good the last couple of years in upstate NY. Has any one else found this to be a problem in NY?

Well, Lake Champlain

Well, Lake Champlain continues to be a hotspot.  As for landlocked waters in New York, it has been years and years since I have fished there.  The Chazy river was a great spot back in the day.  A couple of other streams ove by Lake Placid too.  Then there was the Black River on the other side of the states, very good.  I had an open invite to fish for bass in the Thousand Islands on the St. lawrence seaway, but never took them up on the offer.  Should have, but didn't.

Upstate or Western NY?

Many people merge the two into one.  Seneca and Onieda are usually best in the spring for School Fishing Perch and Walleye.  Conesus and Honoeye are usually slam dunks all year round while the other lakes are spotty and tempermental.  If your not having luck in the Thousand Islands, slip over to the Canadian Side in the Bay of Quinte.  Hay Bay, Deseranto and pockets around Belleville are phenomenol if the winds are down.

I fish Lake Champlain in NY

I fish Lake Champlain in NY and Vermont, always have and always will. It's always been good but some days are better than others. The walleye population has deteriorated some but they still can be found and some good ones have been caught lately in the 7-8 pound class, even up to 10 lbs through the ice. Great for crappies and perch. Lakers above the old and soon NEW Port Henry bridge. It remains one of the best Bass lakes in the country according to some top pro bass anglers for small mouths. Landlock Salmon remain a good prize for the trollers as well as the laker's. Catfishing at night and bullhead fishing in the spring is tops. It's a great year round fishery. You see I know about Lake Champlain, cant say about the other lakes.

Hey REM, have you ever fished

Hey REM, have you ever fished the LCI???

My buddy and I entered it a couple of years back when we were in college.  He lived on the Missisquoi River, so we'd hope into the boat in his backyard and head downriver to the bay.

The first day of the tournament one year, we trolled for 56 northerns.  Nothing over 7 or 8 pounds, and the winner was 15.1 that year, but it was a heck of a time.

I don't know if I've ever had a lure chewed up as much as that... lol

Great fishery, for sure!!!

not much

I'm not much of a fisherman but I buy the sportsman's license so that I can take my son out the week or two after streams are stocked and generally catch something.  Fishing is also a good excuse to drift in the boat on a arm summer day at camp too :)  But we rarely keep anything.

YUp CA, I fished it for many

YUp CA, I fished it for many years and stayed on the water for the whole thing. We trolled for walleyes at night and switched to Lakers and Salmon during the day. Carried extra gas cans for trolling at night. We did catch alot of fish and won some prizes but never any of the big ones  :(
