First Whitetail Hunt in over 20 years

I will be leaving this coming Wednesday for a 2 week whitetail hunt down in Mississippi. This is the first time in well over 20 years I have had an opportunity to chase whitetail's back east. I have 2 areas to hunt, one in northern MS and the other down south. My buddy who owns the land said the northern rut is coming to a close but the southern rut is in full swing. Guess time will tell how we do on getting a nice buck or two but for sure will cull some does. He said he has to many and wants to take several out to balance the heard. Also have a chance at some hogs which would be a first for me. Well lots to do before I hit the road but for sure will post once I am back from the hunt.

Good luck on the hunt.  Is it

Good luck on the hunt.  Is it archery, rifle, or muzzle loader?

I think that going after the hogs would be almost as much fun as the whitetail.

Thanks, it is a rifle hunt so

Thanks, it is a rifle hunt so I will be taking my old Winchester .308 and see if I can put a hurt on a few deer. Taking a hog or two would be a sweet bonus. The hog population is growing and becoming more and more an issue in their area so for sure would like to help thin a few for them.

I got to get in touch with a

I got to get in touch with a old friend of mine that has a lot of property in Missouri on the Lake Of the Ozarks.  He never did say if they had hogs on it but he did say that the whitetail hunting was fantastic.

I would really like to get into some good hog hunting but just don't want to pay the money that the farmers and ranchers want to make off of us hunters just to shoot something that is causing them problems.  I might have to look into it some more when I get back from Africa this summer.

Big Bucks

There have been some Big....Really Big Bucks taken in Mississippi this year.
I hunted a friends Property outside Meridian a few years ago and while I didn't score, I saw upwards of 30 very nice young Bucks...most were 100"-120" 6 and 8's around 3 1/2 years old and he wouldn't let me shoot any of those!!  LOL

Good Luck!!

Thanks all, still hunting but

Thanks all, still hunting but no bucks down at this time. Did take a few does for meat but still have a few days to bag a buck. Saw several small bucks from spike to small 3x3 (6 point) but no shooters. Have not seen any hogs either to this point but never know what tomorrow will bring. Weather has not been great but still a great hunt with good friends.
