First Time Elk Hunt

Hey everyone, first timer here. So I went on my first elk hunt/ scouting mission. It was crazy. I was hunting in the savage run wilderness area, in Wyoming. Has anyone ever been there any tips for the next run. I was on the north west side and i traveled in about 2.5-3 miles. I didnt hear or see anything. I heard it was a tough hunt because of the terrain, but we traveled all day and heard nothing, except for frickin squirles and cows, the only things to call back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some other good hunting locations for a newbie bow hunter.

Thanks, John

Sorry I don't know the area but my best advice is just to cover more ground. I know that's not what you want to hear but remember they say 80% of the elk are in only 20% of their habitat at any one time.

Good luck!

Johnny, it's a little early to be doing much calling, even if you're certain you're into the elk. Give em another week or two to tell you where they are at. And make sure you're listening at night. Don't camp next to a creek, or get away from it and listen after dark. Creeks really mask the sound of distant bugling.

I thought it was to early, but after i got home i talked to one of my buds who went with me and they said a guy who was out fishing about ten miles southeast of us had them swarming all over him. He said it sounded like an orchestra. So we were just in the wrong place. Thanks for the advice. Is there routine places where the elk are/go throughout the day? Where should i anticipate there movement with hunting pressure?

For my first time it was crazy. We hiked up hill that was so steep if i would of fell there was no way i would of survived.
