First Time Bear Hunter, Where to go?

First time on a forum and going to be my first time on a black bear hunt.
I'm looking to go somewhere in Canada within driving distance of Ohio.
I have been researching for a while now and realize the vast choice of Outfitters and Locations.
Please give me any ideas or past experiences with your outfitters and where they were located.
Thanks a bunch.

Welcome to board. I don't have any first hand experience but based on geography I would say somewhere in NW Ontario (which you probably already figured out by looking at a map). There's no shortage of bears there that's for sure!

Ontario has lots of bears thats for shure I hope that you wern't hoping to go in the spring because that is why there are lots of bears , they got rid of the spring bear hunt so you can only hunt bear from Sept 1 till Dec 15. bs
There is good spring bear hunting in the spring in Manatoba and Saskatchewan.
F.K.

First you should realize that Ontario only has a fall season. The fall bears are fatter to be sure, but it is fat. If you want a big trophy bear.........meaning one that has a big hide that squares well with a big skull, plus a long silky spring coat, then you need to look at the places producing big bears regularly and the ratios of the numbers of bears taken for every actual monster. And assuming you want a good hunt at a reasonable price as well.............you should focus on Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Newfoundland. There are also some little known black bear hunts in the Northwest Territories that produce good bears with superb hides. Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte's produce great bears but the hunt prices are ridiculous. Drop me a PM or e-mail if I can be of further assistance.
