First Minnesota Black Bear - Blackbear thanks for the advice

Yep, both myself and my son are hooked, especially with this being so close to home and so reasonable in price. My son is already talking about next year as I told him I would buy him a license first.

It really paid to do research and make phone calls as we got on bear almost immediately after placing baits, thanks to those who helped out.

I didn't harvest the second one, I am not going to shoot one just for the sake of harvesting another bear, we looked for a bigger one or a unique marking of some kind and found neither so will try again next year.

Thanks again, and good luck to all that are still bear hunting. I have a 10 year old daughter chomping at the bit to hunt deer with a bow as this is her first year hunting. With this, more whitetail bow hunting, Mule deer and antelope gun seasons in October/November I will have a busy fall from here on out!

I did a lot of reading, asking questions and quite of bit of walking around looking over the areas, so I felt that I had a good game plan to get "a bear". But it was just dumb luck to connect on one of this size on my first attempt at a do it yourself hunt.

We are pretty fired up to do this again!

Okay these are not exactly bear hunting related but my season opened with a great bear hunt, and my kids did well also. Here are a few pix.

My 10 year old daughter with her first big game animal, nice doe with a bow!

What a great season, I harvested a average 4x4 whitetail with the rifle and passed many with the bow, my son and I both went empty on archery, but not because we didn't have chances, just dot the desire to kill an animal just to fill a tag.
