First fishing trip of the summer!

Just got back from lake Powell. Earliest we've ever gone and had a great time!!

As usual my 5 year oldd boat broke down and we had to cut a day short but still managed to catch 118 fish in 24 hours.

Other than 2 large mouth, 3 smallies, 1 catfish and 1 walleye all were stripers ranging up to 24"

Usually catch a bunch of cats but the stripers were hitting so fast they didn't have a chance. They ask you not put stripers back due to quantity btw.

My boat is a $26,000 curse that is nearly always broken. Every brand of equipment on it has broke. SOme items gone back to manufactures up to 3 times. My big Merc has been plagued by problems eevry year and always something new. Starter, sensors and now something in fuel delivery. Even a tree has fallen on it so it now has a nice dent in the side rail.lol

Oh well, still had a great time.

Congratulations on a great

Congratulations on a great time and some nice fish. Have fished Powell a few time snad always had a great time. Love those stripers and great eating. I know what you mean about the cats as we catch a lot of them too. Too bad you have all the issues with your boat. We have had our Lund for 9 years now and never had an issue with it. Only issue we have ever had was blowing out 3 tires  on the trailer with 2 of those tearing off the fenders. My wife and I just got back from a few days over at Blue Mesa. We did not do quite as well as you but did get 84 fish in the boat in 2 days of fishing and lost several more. Landed 44 Kokonee with most runing 16-18 inches. Rest was a mixed bag of lakers, rainbows and browns. Great time and will be back out there every weekend in June and at least 2 weekends in July taking some friends and family.

Sounds like a great time for

Sounds like a great time for you also. I've never fished the Mesa and actually don't even know how, or have ever caught a Kokanee. have to try it some time though. And the mesa is actually far closer for me.

If I get the boat back soon enough I'm planning to try elkhead reservoir for pike. I read your review from last year and want to try it out. Also closer for me. probably 2 and a half hours or so.

They actually think it's a carbon buildup from trolling too much with the big motor. It's a 115 4stroke btw.

Guess I'll need to buy a little one to go with it.

My motor is a 115 also but

My motor is a 115 also but never had an issue with carbon build up. It is a 2004 Suzuki 4 stroke.  We can troll all day but I do run it full open for about 15 minutes at the end of the day to help burn off and carbon/crap from trolling, might be worth a try if you do not do that. Blue Mesa has been very good to us and we love fishing the lake. Salmon are hitting really good right now and it will stay that way for the next 2 months or so. As for for Elkhead we have done very well there on pike and small mouths. Even have caught a few nice large mouth and crappies but those were more accidental catches. Will have the whole family up there over the fourth of July weekend looking for the big toothy critters. If you have any questions on either lake send me a PM and I will let you know what we use and the areas we fish.
