First Elk..... Finally!

Well after 13 long years and 17 empty tags I finally got my first elk! Wasn't the monster bull that I've always dreamed about (or the one I never recovered in Montana)but I couldn't be any happier with this massive cow! She weighed in at 367 pounds gutted! Got her just before dark on opening day during the Utah general season rifle. Wish I could have found a bull to mount on my wall but I'm very, very happy with all the delicious steaks and jerky this one provided!

Congrats on your first elk. You will learn that any elk is a good elk, it beats the hell out of No elk because we all know that most times elk don't come easy

Congrats

Congrats on your first elk! You have been working a long time on getting that one. Hopefully this kill will lead you to many successfull hunts in the future and maybe that bull you want to put in the wall. Props to you for never giving up even after so many unsuccessful hunts.

First Elk.....

JimmyB, Congrats on your first elk. Many people that I know prefer cows to bulls for eating.

Hey Critter, what's "inbetween" a cow and a bull?

You know, the ones that are really not a bull yet since some important pieces haven't dropped yet or the other ones that haven't develped yet.  Or what others call calves
