First Coyote

Went coyote hunting for the first time today.

My friend was doing the calling. First thing this morning he called in a bobcat. It honed in on me and came right at me. I didn't have a tag for one so I was hoping it would go past me to give him a shot. Instead, it came to within ten feet of me. Stared at me and then turned around and stopped at a hundred yards. I had it in my cross hairs. Besides not having the tag it was way too small for me to shoot. Just a young one.

We hunted hard and finally he called a coyote. I saw it about a 1000 yards away. It came in fast planning to circle and come in down wind to the rabbit in distress. Little did she know that I was there ready.

It never gave me a shot until it got about 75 yards away and then I dropped it. Boy was it fun today. We hunted from 6:30 am until about 2:30 pm.

Remington 700 VLS .243 (100 grain) with a Harris bipod. It do too much damage to the pelt. The entrance wound was dime size and the exit wound fifty cent piece size. I hit her right behind the shoulder and it came out her chest.

The last one I shot was with my 270, it left a hole Actually there wasn't much left on the opposite side lol Hope to get a more savy coyote gun in the future.
What size bipod do you use? I see alot of 9 - 13" adjustable. That doesn't seem high enough unless your prone. I think I would prefer to be sitting.

I have used .220 Swift, .22-250 etc........in the past. I have gone back to the .222 Remington in a heavy barrel Sako and I use Wildcat 40 grain bullets pushed as fast as I can. Coyotes just go down like a rock, tiny little entrance hole and no exit, and that is on the big coyotes we have up north here.
