well i don't hunt vermont but i hunt northern alberta i tried stalking last year lots of sign but never ever saw a bear walked and stalked for ever even followed tracks for ever and still no bears even tried calling a couple of times i think baiting is the best

Thanks up north. You can’t bait bears in Vermont and I don’t have dogs to run. I have tried using predator calls with no results. I think that seeing a bear far away and calling to it is really the only effective method of calling. Anyone else hunt bear in Vermont and have any suggestions? Where are the highest concentrations of bears in the state?

Over here in Na Hampsha, the highest concentration is in the middle of the state. about 1 bear per sq mile. I expect it is similar on the other side of the river. Try stalking between a river and a cornfield as you can't bait over there on the other side of the bridge. a buddy of mine gets his bear every year doing
that in VT. BTW...if ya hear any hootin just before dark, go into stealth mode.

look arouind at the NEK. essex county, vic tory, lunenburg, guildhall,danby areas. also the central spine of the green mountains. need to find nut trees, berries, and beaver swamp all in the same place. i know of a quite a few such places. last year during deer season i cut 3 diferent bear track in and hour off the same trail. we cant bait here so we need to rely on stealth, and natural feeding areas,and patterns. september/october is when those critters go into hyperphagia(daily caloric intake increases by 10 fold in preparation for coming winter) thats when to find them feeding. our bear season ends on the 4th day of deer season. bear season opens on the first of september. more bear are shot by deer hunters, than by "bear hunters" here in vt. waitsfield/warren areas are also said to be good.i hunt in the worcester range. am looking for a specific large bear. good luck
