Finally! Spring is near

Winter is finally losing its grip on us!  The river ice has broken up on the Hudson and the Mohawk.  Water is flowing freely again (and lots of it as the snow melts).

I have seen the first TWO groups of geese working their way north over the last few days.  And now the most sheltered areas with sun exposure, bare ground has finally begun to be visible through the snow!

Now only 6 weeks until spring turkey season opens!

Thats good to hear, you guys

Thats good to hear, you guys back east have been hammered this year, winter still has a strong hold in the mountains over here, its kinda funny cause 4 weeks ago we were at 55% normal snow pack on MT hood, now we are at 115% of normal. and there getting another 15 inches over the next 2 days. its just been raining here in the valley with temps in the 50's now. 2 weeks ago we had temps in the 20's and 30's. the chance of us to get cold again is slim to none where i live. its just a few more months of rain then summer will be here.

It's already broken 60 in the

It's already broken 60 in the Valley here where I live but I won't get too excited yet because I know the snow can hit hard even this late in the year.

I even remember one year when we got a little snow above Aspen on July 3rd.

front range

Looking forward to Spring.  Lot's of snow in the mountain and on the western slope.  Dry as a bone here on the front range.  I haven't heard my sump-pump go on since early September.  Checked it and it's bone dry.  Got upto about 60F around dinner time today of all things.  Supposed to be nice tomorrow.  Anymore spring and early summer are my favorite times of year.

Went for a very short hike

Went for a very short hike this afternoon looking for sheds. Still a little snow in the shady areas but mostly gone in the 7,000 foot range. A little cooler up there but definately feels like spring, I had a hard time walking as everything is mud in the oak brush and the water is running like little rivers in a lot of the ravines.

Oh well another 3 months and I'll start complaining about the heat when I'm out there. March through November are my favorite months as I just do not enjoy the cold at all. I can tolerate it just fine but look forward to summer and fall all the rest of the year.

The older I get, the more I feel the same way you do about it.

The older I get, the less I enjoy the winter.

I’m seeing and hearing more and more geese heading north.  It makes me happy every time I see them or hear them flying over.  It rained hard all night here and man am I glad that it is not snow!  The birds migrating north really make it seem like spring is right around the corner and seeing them makes me look forward to the September early goose season next fall too!

I know exactly how you feel about the cold and snow.  It has really come home to me this year too.  The older I get, the less I enjoy the winter.  I just can’t see myself staying here year round once I retire.  I didn’t take any trips to warmer climates this winter.  Next year we are going somewhere on the February school break.  I don’t know where, but somewhere warmer than New York!  It might be a cruise or a hunt – at this point I don’t care as long as it is warm!

Yeah, I think it hit 80

Yeah, I think it hit 80 today.  Might hit 85 later..... Wink

I always loved spring in the northeast, other than the mud.

Oh that hurts CAVermonster!

Oh that hurts CAVermonster!

But we are having GREAT early spring weather this week. Temperatures will be in the 50s today and might just hit 60 this weekend. It is likely to snow again – maybe a few times – but the icy grip of winter is broken and the snow on the ground is getting less and less as each day goes by. I even wore sneakers to work today instead of boots for the first time in months!
