Finally drew Colorado unit 10 elk

Well it's official today that with 17 points my dad and I both drew the unit 10 rifle tags.

A lot of preperation for this one will begin now. I don't even know how to feel right now as It's been so long I really didn't think we would ever get these tags. I have a grandson that is older than my son was when I first put in for this.

Hopefully the rest of you guys got some good news as well.

Now I have to start begging at work as I already know that we have an inventory scheduled on the opening day of this season.

congrats!

I'm sure you know that's a great tag, and to be able to draw it with your father sounds pretty exciting.  I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Congratulations!

Your patience is impressive!  I have a difficult time waiting 2-3 years to draw the rifle deer tag that I prefer.  Good luck and I am sure it will be a great hunt!

Congrats on a great tag !!

Wade,

Congrats on the unit 10 tag ! Do you or your dad have any goals set as far as a bull either of you will pull the trigger on ? I know you will be doing a ton of scouting this year and I send a huge good luck to both you and your dad.

Well compared to what most

Well compared to what most guys would want with this tag my goals are quite low. My dad has only killed one bull ever and that was a small 5x2. I know he is willing to wait but I don't know how long. A lot will depend on our scouting trips and what we find up there.

I have only killed 3 bulls myself and all are quite small as well. When we started this quest so long ago it didn't take nearly as many points and we were just looking for our first bulls. We are still mainly deer hunters and any good bull will be a trophy.

More than anything I just want to have a good time with my dad and see him get a bull that will make him happy. Whatever I do or do not get will come second to that and does not matter nearly as much.

PERFECT !!!!!!

Wade,

That is the perfect attitude! I am like you and I love watching my kids and family members take something. Don't get me wrong, I am always trying to find that 200" muley to add to my collection, but I would rather see my dad or kids take him, maybe. ()

You will have an awesome hunt with your family and to add two bulls to the mix will be the icing on the cake.

Well with goals like that...

Well with goals like that... I think you guys will be pretty darn happy. Congrats on drawing the tag! I drew my goat tag this year so I know how crazy it feels. Good luck and keep us posted on all your scouting this summer.

Don't get me wrong as I am

Don't get me wrong as I am planning on getting a great bull and have done a lot of research on the area already in preparation for drawing the tag. I own 35 acres in the unit as well so we will have our own private campground to set up in. I'm just not the kind of guy that is going to hold out for a 375 or better bull if other good ones are spotted.

The experience itself with my dad is what I'm looking forward to the most. Even now that I'm over 40 he will step aside and try to get me to take the shot if we are together no matter how large the animal or even if he has never taken one before. I want this to be his best season ever.

It sounds like you guys are

It sounds like you guys are gonna have a blast! No need to take a 375 incher... if you watch your Dad take a bull I'm sure you are gonna call it a success. My dad and I have been saving elk points together for ten years... and if it didn't mean that one day me and my dad will get to hunt a quality unit together, I would bail on the pref point game. But I am definitely looking forward to the day that we draw one of those NW tags.
