Festus, welcome to BGH and great looking bucks! When it comes to field judging elk you must have good tine length, decent width, and decent mainbeam length, mass helps but not as much as the others.

Hey great muleys festus. Before I went hunting elk I watched heaps of those elk hunting dvd's and thought about which ones I would have killed or let go before they shot them.
What you shoot depends on the weather and elk numbers. If you are seeing plenty look for one with 20 inch war tines and 2 ft of throw back length.

I really wanted a 12 pointer with 50 inch main beams like the one in the pic below. At a glance you would think this one would go close to 330 BC?

When it comes down to it you get excited just make sure there are 4 points on the elk (if you are in Colorado) If you have a few to choose from always bigger the better!
