I think Mr Hiker is going to have to go on a trapping vacation one of these years soon. Ever think about trying to catch a bear?

Hunter777, Oh yes the fever is always there. That has entered my mind many times. The wife has heard about it a lot over the years....... "this state has been taken over by a bunch of treehuggin, anti-trappin liberals". Trapping a bear sounds exciting. I was reading some of my family tree history and one of my forefathers used to hunt bear in the winter while they were hibernating. He knew where most of their dens were and would go in there and kill the boars with a knife. That also sounds like an exciting time.

Thats a little extream Thumbs up

I was working with some Russian guys that grew up in Siberia a few years ago and told them how much I would love to go and hunt bear in Russia. They asked me if I was going to hunt them the Russian way.
They use a long spear with a three prong blade. One big one in the middle and about 4 inches to either side is a shorter blade, like a 10 or 12 foot heavy duty pitch fork. They make a place out in front of the cave to plant the spear in and go inside and wake up the sleeping bear. When the bear chases them out of the cave they plant the spear in the ground and the charging bear impales himself on the spear. I said sure I'll give it a try.

Hiker, You need to come and join Hunter777 and I some year. Trapping season starts about the same time Hunter comes for deer season.

Redrider, Thanks! I appreciate the invite and maybe some year it'll work out. That would be a blast hunting and setting a few traps with you two. Thumbs up Hunter, that Siberian type of bear hunting sounds downright exciting. Where they talking about grizzlies?
