Making my way through the woods in the dark to my stand.

Listening to the day wake

Enjoying the subtle lightening of the dawn

Seeing animals that I don't normally see go about their daily business undisturbed by man

Anticipation - never knowing what the next minute will bring (this is the carrot that keeps me in the stand all day)

The rapid adreniline rush that I get when a shooter deer comes into bow range

Sharing the stories of the hunt with my friends

Cooking a meal for my family from the meat of the animal I harvested (making antelope jerky today - best jerky out there because I took the animal from which it will be made)

Your post invokes a peaceful, easy feeling. That's nice. I wish I had that scenario in realistic form. Instead, I have to enter a bunch of stinking deer dogs into my "scape". But I like your post.

No deer dogs where I hunt unless you count the coyotes.

Waking up my two sons before light, while trying not to wake the baby, then...

thanking the husky for keeping that Grizzly out of camp and from the hanging meat while I take a pee....

Making tea and bannock before we go...maybe some boiled eggs for he boys...

Paddling out with one of my boys in bow while the other is hunkered down in the middle waiting for some light to come so he can spot

coming around the corner of the river and seeing two cow moose relaxed and unaware of our presence

calling out the bull we know is back in there....increased heart rate...

watching my son set up for the shot..the shot...the smiles and tea...

going back to get my wife and baby, grandma and grandpa from base camp to be there for the "taking care" of the moose

the paddle back with two very happy boys and moose rack on the bow of the canoe

ribs over the open fire

a good nights sleep with everybody stuffed into the wall tent and the woodstove pumping out the heat....

knowing the husky is there...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Making sure all of your gear is in order for morning......

Putting your clothes that you're going to wear the next day in the bottom of your mummy bag, so they'll be warm when you put them on in the morning....

The sleepless nights....

Fast and simple breakfast to make sure you are on the trail early...long before light..

Climbing that mountain...taking your time..so you don't start sweating to bad....

Breathing in that cool, crisp air....

Trying to get to that perfect spot at least 1/2 hour before shooting light.......

Finally getting there and setting up to get glassing as soon as you can see....

Preaching to yourself.......grid pattern......they're in there, I just need to find them......look for parts of the animal.....ear, leg.....keep glassing.....

After a hour or two, the body starts to shake and shiver, then the teeth start to chatter.......and you say....come on sun....start shining on me...so I can warm up....

to be continued....

Walking slowly upstream with a loaded pack in a river filled with 18 inch long red salmon, splashing and spawning with snow-capped mountains in the distance, seeing a bear come out of the brush on the other side -- and letting it go because it's not the one you want.

Spending days in the rain patterning bears and hacking stands and shooting lanes in the brush, debating just which twigs need to be cut for perfection.

Shivering and eating a granola bar as rain drips off your hood and the sun fades.

Having the wind blowing in the perfect direction.

Seeing a bear come out of the brush into the river right where you figured it would, and work its way upwind exactly as you expected.

Having your mind race in anticipation while you wait for the bear to make its way into the right position.

Warming up near an oil stove in a cabin while your gear drips from clothes lines overhead, looking at the game bag hanging from the eaves of the skinning shed.

What I like,
Teaching my son the hunting and the outdoors.
Getting with friends to enjoy the day.
Hearing the turkey gobbler gobble to signify that he is awake.
I love to see a dog so tickled to go hunting and you know that he will do his part as much as he can.
I love to here a coon dog hit a track and say he was here and I will take you to him.
When a coon dog hits the tree and says he is over here boys he over here. We all love hunting But you know if we all would have the drive the love for hunting like our hunting dogs does we would enjoy the sort even more.
This is only a few of the things that I love the outdoors and the hunting industry mostly the people that I have meet in the sport.
