farrow pigs in oregon

They are in Oregon and California. Texas is over run or so they say and the South East is also. I read a report sometime back that said the most hunted animal in No. Amer is no longer the whitetail deer but the feral pig. I've only ever seen one in the wild and that was in California.

Never seen any in Oregon, but that's not to say they don't have em. At least Oregon doesn't have the problem with them that they do in the deep southern US. Ferrel hogs are 50 times more of pest from Texas to the Carolinas than coyotes are in the midwest and western states. Good eating though Big smile

Re: farrow pigs in oregon

Ferrel pigs are mostly along the Cal border from Ashland west. On the east side there are escaped russian boar from a game farm. But what there is are on mostly private land and getting on can be a bummer. Again, I've been here over 20yrs and have never seen one.

OK I'm confused. The author

OK I'm confused. The author of the original post said "farrow pigs". Some of you are saying "feral pig".

Farrow pig = Pregnant pig

Feral pig = wild boar

What exactly are we talking about here?

Feral pigs are domestic pigs

Feral pigs are domestic pigs gone wild. Wild boar are typically Russian Boar. Around here we don't have any feral pigs, we do have Russian Boar. I believe what the OP is looking for are wild pigs of any kind. Not real common in Ore but they are here. The Russian Boars are generally on private property.

Working with biologist in

Working with biologist in Ore, and specifically Madras on east Ill say this. There WAS boar. They been air hunted as well as trapped very hard by OGF. If you find one now it would be like hitting the lottery. There are still pockets, specifically around Kalamath but as those pockets arent near Ag lands they have been left alone for most part by OGF and state hunters.

While true in eastern Ore they were on private land those folks dont want them and trapped them out.  The last one I had eyes on was interestingly enough up by Dons and like he said, he never seen one his whole life.
