I haven't been hunting them, however when I get out for deer and bear scouting I bring along either the shotgun or rifle and usually do a little calling, but thats about it! Can't wait for spring to roll around!
hmmmmm ... went out deer hunting today (Idaho) ... saw two bunches of turkey. The hens were making their beautiful racket. Our fall locally limited season opens in about four days. With deer tags filled - my turkey tag from spring is still burning a hole in my pocket - may have to remedy that.
In my area in VA, we can take 2 turkeys in the fall. I took my 1st. turkey ever while deer hunting in my stand, & then my 2nd. the next day! 2 hens
going for the gobbler this spring!
Got one in the freezer & the other I gave away to a person in need.
Deer hunters spend so much time trying to pattern deer that we forget that we also can be "patterned." After all, most of us hunt the same days and the same hours, so it isn't difficult for deer to figure us out.
While we would never recommend giving up hunting the traditional moving times for deer -- early morning and late evening -- it's important to keep in mind that deer will move at other times of the day. Sometimes hunting through lunch, or getting in your stand earlier than usual for an...
