I haven't been hunting them, however when I get out for deer and bear scouting I bring along either the shotgun or rifle and usually do a little calling, but thats about it! Can't wait for spring to roll around!
hmmmmm ... went out deer hunting today (Idaho) ... saw two bunches of turkey. The hens were making their beautiful racket. Our fall locally limited season opens in about four days. With deer tags filled - my turkey tag from spring is still burning a hole in my pocket - may have to remedy that.
In my area in VA, we can take 2 turkeys in the fall. I took my 1st. turkey ever while deer hunting in my stand, & then my 2nd. the next day! 2 hens

First of all, if you haven't gone winter backpacking, it needs to happen in the near future. It puts a very unique twist on the summer version of the activity. Yes, it's cold but it's nothing that being prepared can't remedy. Beyond it's therapeutic and recreational value, I think it is a very good tool for the big game hunter as well.
