Fall Turkey Hunt

For the first time the state of Maine is having a fall season for turkeys.
The season starts Oct.21 and goes thru Nov.1.
It's an Archery hunt only, and no lottery. Just go to the Department of IF/W or any agent to get a license. Also must have a Achery license.

This is a bonus because it runs during our Archery season on deer.

Is this your first season ever or just the first fall season?

Fall Turkey Hunt

Hi bitmasher, This is the first fall season ever here in Maine.
They have been hunting turkeys for a good many years, but they started this fall hunt because of the big birds are being a pain to farmers in certian areas.

Ok, must be nice to hunt turkey and deer at the same time!

Yeah I have heard that in some areas native and reintroduced turkey populations have been so successful that they have become a pest, like geese in some places.

Turkey are making quite the comeback in Ontario. Just the other day I was at a buddies just outside of Kanata and he had a male and female turkey on his rural property. The male comes walking over completely fearless to within 15 feet of us. He tells me "yah that bird is crazy". So I start walking towards it. Next thing I know it is chasing me around the house. Was absolutely hilarious. I'm not sure I could kill that bird after we "bonded" like that. In addition to the turkeys he also has at least 15 deer on his lawn in the evening, too bad his wife thinks of them as pets sad

15 deer? Sounds like you have a population problem...

Yeah, you found a buddy with that turkey. Wink

Population explosion. A few mild winters helped. Where I live deer habitat is being developed very quickly, but large areas of parkland (forested) are always set aside, and the region has lots of forested crown land separating neighborhoods. The deer are pushed into all these little pockets. There is no hunting, lots of food, enough cover, and people love them. Deer/car collisions are WAY up every year. A second deer tag was released this year. It is literally as easy to see Deer here as it is to see squirrels.
