I have been reading up on Black Bears and that's about all I can really find out is that hybernation depends on food sources. If that's the case I wonder if they stay out later with all the gut piles from hunters over the hunting season? Just a thought.......???? I really have no idea.
From what I have heard, they dont just wander into a cave one day and wake up 3 months later. They go in and out throughout the winter and they take time going into and coming out of hybernation. Even if there has been snow and bad weather, the bears will still come out to gain some much needed final pounds to last through the deep freeze. I have seen lots of tracks around gut piles where I do my Rifle elk hunting in both 2nd and 3rd seasons.
How many of you out there keep a journal of your hunting trips or outings? I started to about 20 years ago and then moved them from a journal to a story that I will send out to my friends so that they can enjoy the time as well. I'll aslo put into the journal the scouting trips that go along with the hunts of limited or once in a lifetime hunts.
