Fall Bear Hunt

I got my first bear tag for Colorado this year.

Really just have a couple of questions....... When and what makes the Bears go into hybernation? Also, are they still typically around during the 3rd Rifle season?

If it is warm enoung and snow

If it is warm enoung and snow hasn't covered up all of their food sources they will still be out during third season and even later.

I have no idea of what really drives them into hybernation other than no food and bad weather.

 Thanks Critter.  I have been

 Thanks Critter.

I have been reading up on Black Bears and that's about all I can really find out is that hybernation depends on food sources. If that's the case I wonder if they stay out later with all the gut piles from hunters over the hunting season? Just a thought.......???? I really have no idea.

From what I have heard, they

From what I have heard, they dont just wander into a cave one day and wake up 3 months later. They go in and out throughout the winter and they take time going into and coming out of hybernation. Even if there has been snow and bad weather, the bears will still come out to gain some much needed final pounds to last through the deep freeze. I have seen lots of tracks around gut piles where I do my Rifle elk hunting in both 2nd and 3rd seasons.

Thanks for the replys, I

Thanks for the replys, I really do appreciate it.

I have a tag for the rifle seasons, and maybe I'll be lucky enough to see a bear. One can hope.
