An Exoskeleton: Packing game out in style

Berkley researchers w/ DARPA funding ( please, please, somebody else see the irony in that Wink ) have developed an exoskelton to assist people in packing heavy loads for long distances.

In other news, skynet is alive, and t1000s will begin shipping next month.

Run, Forrest, RUN!!

There's the problem -- Berkeley people trying to figure out how to cope with a 70 pound pack. Here's the easy answer: put down the flowers and exercise. I know guys who were in combat in Afghanistan that had easily double that on their backs. 70 pounds is light. I can't imagine any soldier that will want to scramble around in combat in a getup like this -- especially when you consider its limits on your flexibility and what'll happen when it gets full of sand or water. Then there's the noise factor associated with having all that metal on your legs.

Remember William Hung from American Idol? He's an engineering student at Berkeley -- that oughta tell you something.

Given Berkeley's tendencies, I think the military connection was just used to get money out of DARPA. Looks to me like this would have far more application for people with neuromuscular diseases -- but I doubt that Jerry Lewis' pockets are as deep as DARPAs.

I'd pay good money to watch an exoskelton-enhanced William Hung in a smack down with Simon Cowell. The smarmy brit deserves a little of what he dishes out....

I'll agree with that -- as long as there's a 2 for 1 match -- Simon Cowell and Clay Aiken.

On an aside, something's a little fishy about that guy. Maybe his popularity lies with the fact that he can introduce himself in noisy bars by saying, "Hi! I'm Will Hung."

I'm with Ex get of your rear and workout. Now to tell the truth I have never quartered and packed out a moose or elk. But I have drug out my share of whitetails and that's not easy either. But how much will we let go of the experience of the hunt and the harvest before we don't even call it hunting anymore!
