Exercise Equipment ?.

Hi Everyone.
I am 61 years old, and do my best to stay in shape for Elk hunting.
I work out on a Elliptical and Treadmill on a regular basis.
I am thinking about buying a product like the Total Gym to add to my work outs.
Do any of you have or use one ? any pros or cons ?

Thanks
Kevin

I don't have one or use one

I don't have one or use one but it would be nice for upper body conditioning.  I am a year behind you in age and have noticed that in the last couple of years that it would help out and especially now that I am retired and don't get the upper body workouts that I did while I was working.

Can't Hurt

I'm about ten years younger and have started using the gym at work after shift. When I retire I'll have to consider putting some sort of gym in the garage.

Any exercise you can do that helps to provide strength and conditioning can't hurt I think. Use it or lose it seems to apply with physical ability. Stay active and I believe you can hunt harder longer.

I was out of the gym for years and had to get back in last year when a deer hunt killed me due to arthritis and assorted knee problems. This year's deer hunt wasn't an issue and I've noticed that I don't need the pain meds as often since I started exercising on a regular basis.

I don't know your medical history and would urge you to consult with a medical professional before beginning any exercise program. I did and learned a few things. Running is out for me but so is riding a bicycle. Swimming and hiking are OK though, even with a heavy pack when hiking. It has to do with my knees which are my curse. Certain weight exercises are out for me due to a past shoulder injury. AT's and PT's are good at coming up with exercises that can help you. If I hadn't consulted them I'd be doing more damage than good to my shoulder and knees.

Thanks for the advise

Well I ordered the Total Gym 1400 Deluxe. I think that it will be a good addition to go with my treadmill, elliptical and Bicycle when the weather allows. My plan for 2014 is to workout 6 days a week and switch to a different machine each day. then in the summer work my bike in too. I will let you know what I think of the Total Gym after I get to use it for a couple of weeks.

Total Gym

Congratulations on getting a gym and working out Kevin.

I've got you by about a half dozen years, and my Total Gym has been a part of my weekly routine for the past 13 years. Mine is a Weider Pro 9625 that the papers with it show 38 different exercises. I have it, along with another bench and some free weights, set up in a spare bedroom. I do 8 upper body and 2 leg exercises in there 3 days per week.

I also have an AB Lounge and an Elliptical in my computer/tv room. I do a couple of sets on the AB Lounge after workout with the weights and Total Gym. In the summer I walk 3-6 miles almost every day so I only use the elliptical in the winter.

Stick with a routine, and you'll be in good shape.

Total Gym

I got the Total Gym on Monday, and tried it out for the first time right away. it is going to be a awesome addition to my workout, on the DVD it has a 18 exercise workout with 15 reps of each, that is my goal to do all 18 and 15 reps of each, 3 times a week and increase the resistance level as I go.
And keep on using my elliptical 3 days a week for 30 to 40 minutes each time.
I still want to use the treadmill too, that may become my Sunday workout, till the weather allows and I can ride my bicycle.
