Elk - WA - Debone + Proof of sex?

Assuming I manage to harvest an elk somewhere out there... and assuming it is far enough from camp or car to debone the meat... what is some good advice for keeping proof of sex attached?

Quartering is simple enough... keep sex organs or head connected to a quarter.

But for a long hike when deboning makes the most sense, what do you do to maintain proof of sex?  The "largest piece of meat" as described in the regs book might not really be that large..?

Am I better off leaving one quarter in tact?

For that matter... where do you tie your tag if you just have bags full of steak?

That is what I was

That is what I was thinking... hopefully we won't be so far as to need to go the extra step to debone... but would be nice to know what others have done to satisfy the transport requirements...

seems so... until DFW takes

seems so... until DFW takes my elk and tickets me for unlawful transport... LOL

"Largest piece of meat" is somewhat ambiguous...

Bite your tongue! Say that

Bite your tongue!

Say that loud enough and OR might start hacking away at your archery season too... ours is down to 13 total days in early season... late season about the same but with 2/3 of the units closed!!!

Just try hunting WA in the rut without special permit...

:(

Here in Colorado you must

Here in Colorado you must leave proof of sex along with antlers in a restricted area where the elk must be 4 pt or better.  We usually just leave piece of hide with what ever sex gland you want to leave attached to it no matter what the size of the piece of meat.  As far as tagging it we will valadate the tag and attach it to the same piece of meat and have never had a problem with the DOW doing it this way.
