Yep that kind of stuff does happen. So if a tree falls in the forest does an elk hear it?
There was a lightning storm here in Colorado a couple of years ago that killed around 50 elk in a meadow.
It just goes to show that you don't mess with mother nature.
Have seen pictures of it happening before but never to an elk, usually deer. that is a great looking elk hate to see him go like that. Always makes me wonder on starge things that heppen like this.....what were they thinking just after it happend? By the looks of this elk he may have suffered pretty good.
Wow, he must have died instantly, his mouth was frozen open! Great photos. Mother nature is brutal.
I would guess he died pretty quick and from what I can see is the tree landed right across his antlers holding his head up and allowed his jaw to open up because of the pull on his neck. Makes him look frozen in time while bugling.
It is a wicked feeling when a tree just tumbles over when you are out in the wilderness.
