Elk & Moose in Colorado

Howdy Colorado Gang:
Just retired after 25 years in the Army and I'm dying to go Elk and Moose Hunting but need some advice. I have 6 Moose pps and 4 Elk pps. Any recommendations on where I should put in? I haven't been able to do my normal routine scouting becuase I've been deployed and don't live in Colorado anymore. I should add I'm not a Colorado resident anymore. I will trade a whitetail hunt on my 700 acre farm here in Missouri.
Thanks!
Bruce

I will let the more knowledgeable steer you on where to go, I have simply focused on one area for years now and wont be of much help. My area is good for elk, but marginal for moose. I frequent GMUs 3, 4, 5 & 441 mostly and if you get steered my way by some experts, I will surely add in my $0.02 for ya eye roll

But, I want to be the first to welcome you to the site and say THANK YOU for your service! Thumbs up Much respect going your way from me Yes Congrats on your retirement, you have certainly earned it!

Its my understanding that the best places for moose are around Grandby just based on population. However, I'm guessing that 6 points won't be enough due to the very low number of tags state wide.

On the elk, since you have 4 points I would continue to save points and just come out and hunt one of the over the counter units.

Bitmasher and Heavy C. Thanks to you both. I understand I have a ways to go with the Moose tag. I got lucky on my Sheep tag and scored a nice ram after only 5 pps, maybe I'll get lucky again. I'll take a look at Grandby and figure out what area that is and go ahead and drop my app. Again, thanks! Bruce

The main moose hot spots are the Granby area, North Park, the upper Poudre and the Laramie River. They just opened Grand Mesa last year, so I imagine there are some pretty good bulls.
For elk, you are 1 point away from being eligible for the hybrid draw, but otherwise you are in no man's land right now. You can either cash them in on a good, low pressure, high success, but not super trophy quality unit, or keep saving.
