Elk in Idaho Unit 76

My 11-year old boy (12 in October) was lucky enough to claim one of the unclaimed bull elk tags in the Diamond Creek Zone, units 66A & 76. This will be his first big game hunt so I would like to make it memorable. Can anyone suggest an area for us to begin scouting?

Best Regards,

Daniel

I do not know that area well enough to point you to a specific medow or mountain, However, I will take this time to remind you that your success rate will be directly effected by the amount of time you put into scouting, the amount of time you take in preperation ( right cloths, food, maps and so forth.) And if there is one thing that will enable you and your son to get up and get on the trail with a warm cup of coco in you. It is this, Even if you have to spend the 40 to 60 dollars for a propane space heater and an alarm clock, you need to get up early and light off that heater so that your boy can wake up and get up in a warm and comfortable atmosphere or he will very likely want to stay next to the fire untill the best hour and a half of hunting time has passed. make him comfortable and focus on the quality of the time you two spend rather then the harvest of an animal and I think you will find he will be ready for the next step in the following years.
