Elk Hunting Inquiry

Your task, should you accept, is to help one determine how best to stock up.  You see, I've been mulling over some thoughts on my hunting preferences here lately and thought I'd hit the boards to see what others were thinking (and using) as well.

There are many species that I love to hunt, but I want to keep each discussion very focused and very specific.  For the purpose of this discussion, my interests here are focused on ELK.

Now here's the meat of my inquiry....  you are to identify the following that you would use:

1) What rifle would you use for each?

2) What bow would you use for each?

I have my thoughts but will chime in later after I see what some of y'alls is!  I'll let this discussion run for a while and then compile the responses (along with responses that I receive from other inquiries) and post them up on my blog (and here of course!!!).

seeing as i don't rifle hunt

seeing as i don't rifle hunt for elk i am not an expert. however i do know something about bows and could maybe help you out there. i use my 2010 bear assault set at 70 lbs with beman hunter elites and trophy taker shuttle tlock broadheads. you dont need a high poundage bow to kill an elk but a top quality broadhead is a neccesity. a friend of mine shot a bull elk thru and thru the shoulders with the shuttle tlock's.

When I rifle hunted I used a BAR .270 for elk... now I use a Bowtech Patriot @ 65lb with Shuttle-T broadheads.

Hey AWMILLER, just curious,

Hey AWMILLER, just curious, are you doing research or something?  Not anything bad with it, but you have posted this exact question, just changing the game animal, all over this site as well as another that I am currently on.

Like I said, no biggie.  Just seem to be flooding the hutning site with this question.......

Welcome to the site.  Oh, and I would use a 30-06 and a Mathews Z7 (If I actually owned one).....

Hey bud!  Yeah I'm doing some research (1) for my own morbid curiosity and (2) to compile some research that's not region-specific.  I can see where it would look like flooding but each research item is geared to a specific species, or species within a particular group.  I was going to start out by posting everything in one thread but had done that on other resource sites and soon the responses lost touch with the information I was hoping to gain.  Then I found that if I posted up something for a specific species in its specific forum, the responses were more genuine and concise.

And thanks for the inputs thus far!!!

Cool, thanks for the reply.

Cool, thanks for the reply.  Funny about being region specific.  The other site I am referring to is one that's almost specifically Northeast hunters.  kinda funny.

Good luck with the research and morbid curiosity.......
