That's too bad. Some people will take anything that doesn't belong to them.

As far as the head, was it mounted or just antlers, and if it was a mount how was it done. With it being that nice of a rack was it measured? If it was there will be a record of it and can be used to identify it if it is found. Personally I would start to watch all the papers and go into antique shops, and home design shops and let them know that it was stolen.

Knows how that feels. Had a 84 inch pope n young antelope stolen from me. That was a nice bull too. I have gotten used to putting my initials in the back of the antlers or horns since then. It would make for an easy identifier if you saw it and had to have the police get it back.

I can't understand why some one would take some one 's trophy. He couldn't take any pride in it he didn't shoot it. It just goes beond my imagination . I gess some people will take anything if it isn't tied down.

I agree! Our hunting cabin was burglarized years ago. They took just about everything they could. They took one mounted 8pt buck and tried to get the other but couldn't get it off the hook. It wasn't a great big deer by any means, but it was his trophy-his first antlered buck. I guess they sell the mounts. The sheriff's office did recover 1 of 6 guns stolen this past year, 3 years later. It makes you mad!

That previous poster who just came on and made that his first post sounds like he knows your brother and whether that allegation is true or not I would be looking into that joker's whereabouts when the head was stolen.  This is exactly why I put four chains and locks on the 357"+ bull's head/rack my buddy shot in October in Wyoming while we were in the field backpacking the rest of the animal back to the truck.  John thought I was a little goofy when I did it, but I told him we had put in too much time and money to let some slimebag do what happened to this poor guy and that beautiful bull!!!  That 7mag mentioned in a post would be too good for the guy if he's caught because anybody that would do that deserves a slow, lingering type of punishment IMHO

I hope you find the elk but I know your pain. I got a 6x6 desert mule deer that was 28.75" tall and 28.25" wide that got stolen out of a pickup in my pasture while it was drying. I was making a european mount and was out of town for a weekend so I figure it was some one that new where I was.

This year in the November cow hunt a friend of mine got his cow right at dark so he dressed her and tagged her and left for camp. next morning when he got back all that was left was a tag under a rock. The bad thing was he had left his cabelas elk hauling cart that his wife won at the RMEF dinner in Hobbs and it was gone to.

Definitely keep us posted as the investigation and prosecution progresses.

Abusing anyone - including by stealing from them is wrong and shouldn't go unpunished.
