I've eaten bear meat from a spring-killed bear and it was fine. All bear meat carries the possibility of parasites, just the same as pork. You simply have to be sure to cook it adequately. That will kill the parasites.
Spring bear is the best as it is really tender from laying around. Fall bear are good if you get one after berry season. I eat bear all the time and it is my favorite meat to eat out of wild game.
