Eastern Oregon hunting

hey ya 'all.
I have been amassing preference points forever and my target area seems to get farther and farther away. Im not getting any younger and wish to cash them in next season. Problem is I dont know where to start. Have contacted several biologist in several areas but thay have been tight lipped with info. Im not a road hunter and im not looking to find any ol buck on the side. Im hoping for a really decent buck as it will probably be my only muley. i was looking into the Starkey exp. forest hunt and was wondering if any one had any info on the size of the bucks there. Not looking for record size, just respectable and worth the time. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BGH.

Would like to help you but I normally hunt close to home or not at all. I've seem some photo's of bucks over south of Burns that were super. Don't know what unit that is.

You might consider the Owyhee unit. They only killed like 7% of the available bucks last year, there's a ton of public land and success is pretty good.

I would definitely recommend the starky exp hunt. I haven't yet hunted it myself but many of my friends have drawn the tag over the last couple of years. They all had a great time and were extremely successful. There are big bucks south of Burns, Steens mountain, Wagontire and Juniper units usually do well, however, populations vary with the weather. I know the owyhee unit can be good also, but I've never hunted deer there.

elcome to BGH DBD!

How did you get that screen name? I could use it I guess. Seperated my pelvis so much the Dr said I could have delivered twins at the same time; but I rode that sucker. Taught him a lesson!
