East Tennessean wants to know where to hunt

Hey, I live in Knoxville (Pigeon Forge in the summer) and would like to know where to hunt. I've hunted for whitetails in AR some (my dad lives there), but I dont really know where to start here in TN. Im a college student, so I cant afford a guide. I'm mainly interested in deer and turkeys. Thanks for any help.

P.S. I posted here because the southern forum didnt look like it got much viewing.

Most states have a lot of public hunting land. You must have a regional fish and wildlife office near where you live. I would go in and talk with them. Most Rangers (or conservation officers, I don't know what Tn calls them) are very helpful if you ask for advise on where to hunt.
I know for sure that if I was going to hunt in your area, I would have been in contact with them and have maps and a few penciled in circles to go check out as soon as I arrived. Its really not that hard.
I would start with the fish and wildlife web site. You can get the phone numbers, location of the office and most likely maps of the public land.
I definately would talk to the guys and gals that patrol it though. They will have the best info on where to hunt with less hunting presure and since they spend so much time out there they should also be able to point you to where the animals are.
