East Ky Bull Elk Tag raffle.

Don't know if anyone is interested but the N. Ky. Chapter #481 Quail Unlimited was awarded a Ky Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission Bull Elk Tag and they are going to raffle it off to raise funds for their continued conservation projects. I believe it is the 8th item down on the QU home page for more information.   www.qu.org  The odds are much better than the KY lottery. 1 in 200 on the raffle. There will only be 200 tickets sold and tickets are $100.00 ea. Raffle also includes a shoulder mount. A $1000.00 to $1200.00 value. The winner only needs to purchase an Non-Resident hunting license. The $365.00 elk permit required for a Non-Resident who gets drawn in the Ky. Lottery has been waived. The tag is good for any zone and any legal weapon.

Good hunting,  OT

That's one of the great

That's one of the great success stories of the decade - the growth of the KY elk herd. It was only established there in 1997, and they actually stopped introducing any more in 2002 because it was doing so well. It now numbers approximately 5,000, much ahead of expectations. It is believed that the next world record elk might possibly come from Kentucky!

Now that's a success story! Thumbs up

Thanks Jaybe

It appears that you may have quoted from an old article from RMEF which is ok of course but the actual population now in KY (3/6/2011) is between 10,000 and 11,000. Now that is a success story. I suppose the rapid increase is because we have no natural predators (yet) with the exception of the sportsman. Great habitat with lots of open areas on the WMAs and closed mining operations and plenty of food and water. I deer hunt but have never elk hunted. Hope I get the chance before I get too old. I have eaten elk and oddly enough, like it better than venison.

I'd love to, but I wouldn't

I'd love to, but I wouldn't be able to sniff that raffle prize!

Those things go for big bucks, and rightly so.  As you both said, a great success story!

Thank you for your reply. Tickets sales are going well with 60 to 70 tickets remaining. It has been a great success thanks to sites like Big Game Hunt. You guys have been great and we too would like to wish all those who have participated, good luck in the draw.
