Do you mean to tone down the shine on stainless? The same way, blast it with media from a sand or bead blaster. The type and grit of the media as well as the speed it is projected at will determine what type of results you get. Some like just a tone down smooth chalky matte finish, some like a sheen, others want a courser finish. It can all be done with a blaster. That's how the manufacturers and professional gunsmiths do it. You can even invest in a smaller non-recycling blaster yourself. Just experiment to find out how to get the surface you want.
