Drop camp experience

Last fall we went on a drop camp hunt for the second time in 4 years. Both times had excellent time with the same very good outfitter. The area in Colorado that we go requires one preference point to draw and is why 2 times in 4 years. The problem is when we left this past year we were in a hurry to get to town get a warm shower and a decent meal. We talked with the outfitter briefly and said how great a time we had and that we all saw several elk but just couldn't seal the deal on more than 1 out of 5 of us harvesting. The first year we harvested 1 out of 4 but saw a lot fewer elk than the 2nd year. When we called back after season was over to reserve the camp for 2014 we were told it was full as well as all the other camps. I suppose I realize its first come first serve basis but I thought a phone call would have been appropriate to give us a chance on it first. We were told how they relied on repeat customers and met some that had been going there for years. I suppose I'm disappointed that now we know the area so good and have to find a new area.

Just about all the outfitters

Just about all the outfitters that I know work on a first come first served type of hunts. If they didn't they might not fill a spot one or more years.

Now returning clients do usually have first choice if a hunt is canceled before they go out looking for another client but that is the best that you can hope for.

Try Samuelson Outfitters out of Frazier( Winterpark) Colorado. They are great people and have lived their there entire life. Have some good drop camps that are pretty successful. Tags are OTC for Bull 2nd and 3rd season. Troublesome area unit 18. You will go in on a pony .
