Where you from, Bigcallin?

I live in Butte. This will be my first bear season too. I have a buddy in Livingston and he says he's taken a bear south of town the last 3 springs. I'm planning to hunt with him some. Closer to home, though, some folks that do a lot of horn hunting have told me some places where they consistently see bears in the spring feeding on winter kill.

I'm planning to keep a predator call with me while hunting. I used to do a lot of pred hunting in Texas. Maybe I can get a bear to come to a rabbit in distress call.

I'm real excited about bear season too.

I always carry one for bear, as well as a cow/calf call. It works.

Driving the noob CRAZY!

Hey, a guy that is going hunting with me on this hunt told me something very interesting yesterday. A gentleman, whom has some local fame as a predator hunter (coyotes & lions w/ dogs) told him that the best way to hunt these bad boys is like whitetail deer. Now keep in mind that we cant bait or run dogs, so unless you are on a game trial you KNOW bears use, a tree stand is silly, in my mind. Sittin on a game trial to me, a novice bear hunter at best, is silly, cause I didnt think bears are as terresterial as whitetail, meaning in my mind they dont use the same trial constantly. Let me know if I am wrong. So that leads me to believe he means either creeping through the woods hoping to run into one eye roll , or on some sort of drive through the woods. Now I dont know about the drive meathod, but I dont know how bad I want to sneak up on a bear, grizz or blackie, that I dont know is there. The way I understood, he meant a sort of mix of both, like maybe driving woods quietly??? eye roll Now, I know if I dont know what he meant, you surely cant, but let me know what you think. Assume everything you want, cause I am. Lets try to get a discussion going on this. What do you all think about hunting bears this way? My opinion: Shame on You! .
