Drew Upper Deschutes

I'm new to this site, but I drew Upper Deschutes for the 2012 Hunting Season.  I know the area well from camping over the years, but have never hunted there.  I know the Wickiup very well, but it getting overwelmed with people over the past 10 years.  Anyone have any recommendations on the best places in the unit to hunt?  I'm thinking Northwest of Davis lake?  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the welcome.  Maybe in time, someone will chime in with some experience in the Upper Deschutes.  I have quite a bit of experience bow hunting the Interstate unit, and Rifle hunted the Silver Lake unit, just no rifle experience in the Upper Deschutes, camp there a lot though, and like hiking up in the 3 Sister Wilderness area.

I haven't hunted that unit,

I haven't hunted that unit, but have heard rumors of some nice deer in there. I have a buddy who has some property over there. I'll see what he can tell me.

I've hunted Upper Deschutes

I've hunted Upper Deschutes the last 4 seasons as well as this season coming up. It's not an overly good unit but there are deer here. I do it because it's an easy draw and I can hunt out my back door. Your idea about West of Davis is a good one. Up high and away from people is all I can say. If you're looking for meat, there are forkies just about everywhere but it you want something big, you need to be up on the ridges and then you need a lot of luck. I've have to hunt hard to get a buck but it's nice to sleep in my own bed.

PM me and I give you some good tips.
