I assume you mean elk, or is

I assume you mean elk, or is it deer?  From what I heard, 61 is an awesome unit for elk, and there are a couple of regulars on here who have hunted there.

Congrats and best of luck to you and your Dad! Making memories at 79 years old....cool!

2011 First Rifle Season Unit 61 Elk

I was looking through some of the pictures for this year and realized I forgot to up lod the photos.

We had an awesome time this year.  WE saw Three bears Friday before the season opening and were in the elk every day.  Missed a couple of very nice bulls but ended up filling all four bull tags.  They were all very nice bulls, even the spike I took at the end of the season fro meat was a nice one.  He ended up being 5 ro 6 tears old, so it was good to get him out of the gene pool.  (Tastes good too!)

WE had a lot of adventures and I will post some of the stories later.  The first two pictures are of me and my Dad, thrid one is mtnbrowndog and the fourth one is my Uncle.  What an awesome time on the Uncompahgre.

Thanks for all the information you guys have given.  It helped to make the hunt incredibly successful.

Can't wait to get back up there!!!

That is a fine collection of bulls!  A huge congrats all the way around.  I am looking at hunting the Uncompahgre next year, in Unit 62 though.  Don't think I could draw 61 with zero points, do you? Wink

Thanks for sharing the photos.  You guys have some freezers full of meat for the winter, that's for sure! Awesome!

I've got a good friend looking to hunt unit #62,.. I suggested this website and forums to him to register to and possibly get a little help and direction regarding the area,.. he's from Michigan and planning a trip out with a friend from Ohio and Utah.

 mtnbrndog:

Congrats on the hunt and pics of your bulls,...awesome hunt for sure !

Congratulations on a very

Congratulations on a very nice bunch of bulls and what sounds like a great hunt. I look forward to reading more of your stories about when you get a chance. I didn't know you could still take a spike anywhere in Colorado, over here it used to be legal in the third season a decade or so ago but it's all point restricted anymore. And of course that's usually all I see if any at all.

Last time I was over where you hunted I was hunting lion back in 97 and took a pretty good one.

Congrats !!!

I was wandering if I would ever get to see the pics ? Congrats to all of you and it looks like you guys had a great time ! Thumbs up Hey Mike, Who aged your spike ?

Wade,

I don't know if it is all the trophy units, but in 61 and 40 you can kill a spike if you so choose.

A great season for you guys

A great season for you guys for sure!  Thanks for sharing all the pics too.  That is a really nice group of bulls you have there.  If I ever end up in unit 61 I'd be more than pleased to take any of those bulls.

Congrats!
