I am going to draw another PP for Colorado elk. I am intending to draw a tag for Elk/Mule deer in Montana.

I should have it easy this

I should have it easy this year.  I'll draw my Colorado unit 61 muzzle loader elk tag and a archery tag for deer in unit 44.  Then I should draw my muzzle loader deer tag in the Utah Book Cliffs unless they drop the number of tags again this year.  I'll also have a good chance of drawing a Arizona 12a rifle tag, I'm crossing my fingers on that one.

This is what its looking like

This is what its looking like for me:

Colorado: Elk PP,  New Mexico: Elk, Pronghorn and Deer,  Texas: Mule Deer, Javelina and Bighorn Sheep (Yes, there are some public hunts here in TX),  Arizona: Unknown at this time

I'm still trying to decide if I should hire an outfitter for my elk hunt. What do you all think?

Hiring a outfitter is a long

Hiring a outfitter is a long though out process.  You have to ask yourself some questions like do you know the unit good enough to do it yourself?  Is the unit the type that you might need horses or mules to get the elk out after you shoot it?  Along with others.  When you hire a outfitter you are paying for his knowelege of the unit and his capabilities to get you onto a animal that you are willing to pull the trigger on.

On my upcoming muzzle loader hunt in unit 61 in Colorado I am still mulling over the thougth of paying a outfitter for the hunt.  It takes a resident a minimum 14 or 15 years to draw this tag and a non resident 17 to 18 points so it in really a once in a lifetime hunt for just about everyone.  I have actually contacted a few outfitters in the area along with people that I know that have hunted it and will make a final decision when I am notified that I drew the permit.

The biggest problem that I have with the waiting for 16 or so years is that by the time that you draw the permit you are getting up in age to the point that you really can't just go out and do it by yourself unless you started building points when you were quite young which didn't happen in my case.

PP for me on Colorado Elk,

PP for me on Colorado Elk, Moose, Sheep, and Mule Deer.  That will give me 2 or 4 PP for each.  I'm going to hopefully draw on Elk and Mule Deer archery this year - doing something different.  Whitetail in SE Ohio is alway a definite.  May do hog in Tx this year and bear in either Canada or Idaho.

I will probably get more PP

I will probably get more PP for deer in elk for Colorado which will put me at 14 for elk and 12 deer maybe ill draw one of my other choices. For sure otc archery and maybe I can burn my 2 points for antelope not really wanting to get in that game for a pronghorn! Oh and of course spring turkey still trying to seal the deal with the bow on a fat gobbler!

Putting in for muzzy cow elk

Putting in for muzzy cow elk and mulie tags. Also putting in for my moose tag but who knows if I will draw even with 14 points. If I do not draw a ML cow tag then it will be a 2nd season left over cow rifle tag. PP for sheep, mountain goat and antelope. No out of state hunting this year, at least none planned at this time.

Since moving away from

Since moving away from Colorado this fall and now in Montana, I kind of hurt myself in drawing a late rifle tag in unit 40 or a deer tag for either 66/67. I have multiple points for each but don't know if its worth the wait and the travel/money to hunt areas down there. Since up here its relative new country but plan to start shed hunting, predator hunting, and scouting this winter. Plan to hunt elk/deer/bear by Thompson Falls unit 121 since its about an hour away. Going to put in pronghorn tags in 530, and bull elk in unit 455, and elk b in unit 121. Good luck all your drawings hunts. Preston
