2 yrs ago I decided to do some long island ny deer hunting. Here on Long island it was shotgun season, In this part of Ny, it is shotgun or muzzleloader only. A few months prior I did some pheasnt/rabbit huntting, Managed a few birds but no rabbits. So I come home and clean my gun and put it away till deer season. deer season is upon us with few inches of crunchy snow on the ground and we go. I find a nice area to sit and wait, and wait. As im waiting I here small foot steps coming towards me. Couldnt see anything because of the land drop off. At around 3 pm a nice size 4 pointer (atleast) comes up out at about 30-40 yds looks at me turns and stops. I have the most perfect shot anyone could ask for. Lifted my remington 1100 and set the bead on him, took a deep breath and pow! with that he's gone and back down the hill he went into the thick woods. I waited a few minutes and called my friend to help track him. We go to the spot where he stood waiting for me to take him and NOTHING! no blood no hair, nothing but big ass high tailing foot steps! we followed his tracks for a bit and now its getting dark. With that, I go home and clean my gun. To my stupidity surprise, I never changed my barrel back from when I went bird huntting.
