At one time I had tried to setup an FHFH entity here in the West slope of Colorado. Unfortunately, I had several family issues come up and I was never able to dedicate the time to get it off the ground.
I was recently contacted by a couple of hunters wanting to donate a deer and I realized I didn't have any info.
So I did some searching -
If you are hunting the western slope area and want to donate, please consider the Manna Soup Kitchen in Durango Colorado.
Manna Soup Kitchen
1100 Avenida del Sol • Durango, CO 81301
The Kitchen Manager has a butcher that will handle all game and you can drop it off field dressed, skinned with the head removed and they will be able to use it within LaPlata County.
If you send me an email at offroadmike@gmail.com, I can get you his contact information so you can drop off your donation.
While 90% of hunters eat their own, there are a few out there that may not or just may have had a great year. There is nothing unethical in my opinion in donating your animal to help feed those who may not have the means in this economy. I only say this because I had a few people claim it was just giving a hunter an excuse to kill.... Of course these were anti-hunting vegans.. but hey, figured I would bring it up anyway.
If you are hunting anywhere at anytime and you would like to donate, please take the time to contact many of the organizations in your area that can point you in the right direction.
Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry
Your local wildlife agency
Your local soup kitchen or homeless shelter
Your local church or religious leader
Thanks
