dog hunters shooting each other in florida..any opinions?

so far in florida there has been 5 incidents of hunters shooting each other, the latest, most tragic resulted in the death of a young boy, 4 of the 5 shootings involved hunters running deer dogs, the other was a group quail hunting. i can easily see why, you have a group of people in relatively close proximity, on the ground, ready to blast any deer that runs by driven by the dogs, this type of hunting just fuels the anti-gun/hunter movement....any opinions on this.???

Well when I learned safe gun handling from my father and in the NY hunter safety course (needed to get licence in NY)
Rule 1 Treat every gun like it is a loaded gun
Rule 2 Be sure of your target

I say anybody that cannot follow these rules and the others (like always ask permission from the land owner etc.) have no right being in the woods with a gun. These people have wrecked at a min 2 lives. The person they shot and there own (unless they have no soul) not to mention family members on both sides.

I agree... there is absolutely no excuse for shooting another hunter/animal. If you can't identify what you are shooting at then you should not be shooting at it. Most hunting accidents are avoidable if the hunter would have exercised some common sense and hunter safety. All it does is give the impreesion that hunting and guns are dangerous which they are in the wrong hands. The sport is perfectly safe in the right hands.

update

the boys were under the supervision of there parents, all wearing the required orange, but they were trailing a wounded deer, as the deer got up they started firing, a ten year old shot a 13 year old in the back with a 22 mag.

WTF is a 10 year old doing with a rifle? This man should be locked up for letting a 10 year old hold a loaded firearm. If this is ok by law down there the
law makers should be locked up!

I don't think it's wrong for a 10 yr old to have a rifle IN SOME SITUATIONS!! I purchased my first ruger 10/22, with my own money when I was 9, I had BB gun at age 7.

There is and always will be the posiblity of a hunting accident (especialy if your a hunter) during drives for deer. It's a risk we all take when we go into the woods during a gun season.

i agree hunter, i too took my son hunting when he was that age, but it was either sitting in a ground blind, or a shooting house, with no one else around, when he did finaly shoot one, i kept the rifle and he did the blood trailing. yea 4 shootings and the season in florida has just started is high, but all the incidents have been with dog hunters. personally, i am against running dogs, there is a lot of animosity between still hunters and dog hunters, just too many people with guns dogs and trucks in a small area, the saying here is that the dog hunters trail markers are beer cans...that may not be true in all the cases, i am sure they are lots of dog hunters who do things right, but trust me, i have seen enough beer cans lying along the road in the dog hunter areas to make me believe it, and a 22 is not an authorized weapon for deer in florida, it will do the job properly placed, but not legal. sounds, like the boy was just toting a gun to maybe fit in until he could handle a larger weapon. so far no still hunt or stand climbers have shot themselves...knock on wood............

I don't have a problem with children hunting as long as they are under the "direct and immediate" supervision of an adult. Obviously these ones weren't and the results are, in my opinion, tragically predictable.

i think all states require hunter safety to purchase a hunting lisence, but a minor under the age of 16 can go with an adult who has a hunting lisence. one minor and one supervisor i think should be alright in any situation because his attention is focused on one person. Two minors is twice the possiblity of something going wrong. We all know that when we were kids our common sense wasnt something our fathers were proud of. Tragic situation that could have been avoided

The right weapon for the right game,
The right hunter for the right hunt.
I started 'hunting' the junk-pile with a BB gun when I was eight
I was allowed to use my Dad's Marlin .22 within his supervision at 10 after he trusted me and he knew trusted myself.
Before I buy or even use a weapon all aspects are considered, including who I hunt with or around. I will not go hunting on my property if I see my trigger loose neighbor is free, heck I won't even go back there. Not every bullet stops in a tree!
It sounds off, but I will not own a hand gun for personal reasons, too easy to use too easy to misfire, too easy to harm. I am not against handguns, I just know where I draw the line for myself and my family.
Also, it's not good enough to know what you are shooting at. You need to know where to shoot and only shoot if that is where the bullet will go. And remember sometimes that bullet/arrow will keep going.
