Pretty much everyone who doesn't want to doesn't have to pay taxes. That is everyone filing long form or having multiple revenue sources.
The IRS had a lot of it's funding cut under Bush I. Further under the son and a lot of the funding it had redirected from enforcement to help lines and such. The chances of an audit have been tiny for years. The temptation is there, and one can just wander into the grey area, like wether transportoin is compensation or not. Looks like Dashle has come to some kind of an agreement with the IRS, Palin is still working on a deal with the State of Alaska.

There are still some who insist a scope is not needed for the type hunting they do, ignoring the advances of the last 150 years in optical sights. (Even the ultra-conservative US Army has adopted optical sights.) The idea that in some special circumstances open iron sights or aperture (peep) sights might be more useful is not lost on me, but with the inevitable advance of age comes the reduction in visual acuity needed for using iron sights.
